January, 2009 Dear Friends,We hope you are having a wonderful holiday season and 2009 brings you joy, health and success in all of your endeavors. So many of us feel fortunate to live in a township where family, friendship and values of respect and caring are shared. While some have lived here all of their lives many more are much more recent arrivals. A study of our history demonstrates early recognition of diversity, tolerance and neighborliness. More than 80 years ago some citizens got together to form the Crosswicks Community Association with responsibility for the Crosswicks Community House. At that time many of those most active in township affairs lived in Crosswicks, hence the name; however both the Association and the building have centered on township affairs. Today more than half of the Board live outside of Crosswicks. For more than 80 years the Crosswicks Community Association through the Crosswicks Community House has served as a meeting place of Scouts, antique car enthusiasts, dancers, and yoga students to name a few. The September Festival, Halloween parades and parties, Christmas tree lighting and Santa’s arrival, summer splash days, concerts on the green and other events have been hosted at the Community House. Musicians have taken advantage of the stage on the second floor to perform. In addition, private affairs such as bridal and baby showers, birthday and graduation parties, Thanksgiving dinners and fundraisers have made use of the facility. In 2007 a new kitchen was installed thanks to Boy Scout Pack 55 and an Eagle project. Volunteers are welcome and there is always a need for fresh ideas! We would love to see some of our newest ‘Chesterfieldians’ become involved. Financial support comes from the Township Committee, fundraising projects, donations and annual dues from members. (Membership provides for reduced building rental fees.) Membership dues are $35.00 annually. Of course we are recognized as nonprofit by the IRS and would furnish information to interested donors. Donations, dues and queries may be made to Box 128, Crosswicks NJ 08515 or Monty and Jack Caldwell at 298-5098 or Heidi Setz-Kelly 298-6785.
Cordially,
