March 31, 2009 The Township Committee met on the above date at the Media Center in the Chesterfield Township Elementary School. The Board of Education opened the meeting with the flag salute and a moment of silence. Mayor Hlubik opened the meeting and roll call was taken showing present: Mayor Michael J. Hlubik, Deputy Mayor Brian J. Kelly and Committeeman Lawrence H. Durr. The Open Public Meetings Act statement was read and compliance noted. The meeting was opened to the public for comments on matters not appearing on the agenda. Hearing none, the Board of Education began their presentation of the proposed 2009-2010 School Budget. During the portion of the presentation concerning Special Education Tuition, Mr. Kelly asked if Chesterfield School could become a receiving school for special education students from other districts and receive compensation or tuition for that service. Dr. Gino Siveri answered that it may be possible after the move to the new facility; however, there is no room in the existing school to provide that service. During the School Transportation portion of the presentation, Mr. Durr asked if additional bus routes have been added. Board President Brian Meincke responded that there are no new routes for 2009-2010 and he anticipates a decrease in the number of bus routes for 2010-2011 as the new school will be open and students should be walking to school. During the explanation of Employee Benefits, a member of the public, Susan Gallagher asked if the Board has a yearly audit of their health insurance to ensure they are receiving the best price. An 11% increase this year seems very high. Louise Zoilkowski responded that the School participates in the State Health Benefits Program and any change to the health benefits that are offered would require re-negotiating contracts. At the end of the budget presentation, an unknown member of the public commended the Board on their presentation and added that she has been coming to budget meetings for years and this presentation was the most concise and clear cut presentation that has ever been given. The School Board approved a Resolution adopting the 2009-2010 School Budget. At 8:32 PM, the meeting was adjourned on a motion by Mr. Durr and second by Mr. Kelly. Respectfully submitted, Bonnie J.
